“The Show” (documentary) revisited
In full effect… Biggie Smalls is the illest! For any 90’s Hip-Hop head…
“The Show” is a mixture of live performances and candid interviews.
Yeah, I’ll be honest with you… I shop at Big lots.Who shouldn’t?!? You can get batteries for half price, blank CD-R’s for dirt cheap and even shampoo that’s cheaper than Target’s sale price! My favorite section at that store is the Bargain bin DVD section where legit movies like “Escape from New York” and just about every Van Damme movie after Street Fighter is in there for the low price of $3 bucks… The mother load of all come ups was found in the Big lots DVD bin and that film is “The Show” a dope Hip-Hop documentary presented by Russell Simmons. Why the f@#k it was there, I have no idea. The fact of the matter is I just got one of the best Hip-Hop documentaries (next to style wars) at a discount close out store for $3 bucks and it’s still listed on Amazon for $17.99!
“The Show” is a must for any Hip-Hop fan. “What happens on stage is only half the story…” Damn right it is! With liver perfrmances from Wu-Tang Clan, Dr. Re & Snoop, RUN DMC and possibly one of the best Notorious B.I.G. performances recorded is featured on this documentary. Between each live performance each artist speaks for themselves in candid interviews dealing with the rise of success and the struggles they went through to get to where they are. Biggie’s interview was the most candid one that got very personal, and gave aus a better understanding of what he constructed within Hip-Hop culture. The Wu-tang interview and behind the scenes were classic, like any family relationship expect drama! (especially with Method man and U-God, lol!) Go behind the scenes and relive some of the best 90’s concert footage in one single dvd. I gotta give it up to Big Lots for hookin’ this up in my library!
“Mixtape, Inc.” The Documentary

Check this out! I know I ain’t Ebert or Roper but I’m givin’ this one Thumbs up! What can I say, I’m a sucker for Hip-Hop related documentaries cutting a fine line between the culture and money hungry b!tches capitalizing on our culture… Mixtape, Inc. is a detail oriented look into the illegal business of Hip-Hop Mixtapes. It’s practically a war of words between DJs, Performers and Retailers vs. Record labels and copy right codes. The documentary also breaks down how music is listened to now and how the success of a Mixtape alters how albums are bought… who really is cashing out with big revenues and who’s paying the price and sacrifice. Mixtape, Inc. features MixTape entrepreneurs  DJ Clue?, DJ Ron G, Kanye West, G-Unit, Xzibit, DJ Kayslay and DJ Green Lantern breaking down the history within the Mixtape Industry, the money and the truth… Hustle for that paper!
Peep the Product description…
There’s a battle brewing with the Mixtape DJs, Performers, Retailers and Buyers on one side and the multi-billion dollar record labels and copyright infringement authorities (RIAA) on the other. Mixtapes have become an important and hot part of the Hip-Hop culture, revolutionized the Hip-Hop music industry and changed the way we hear and buy Hip-Hop music. The financial stakes are extremely high. These entrepreneurial compilations are now the root of a new power struggle, the urban streets of America vs. the traditional corporate music industry.

“Just for Kicks” Documentary DVD

Since B-Boys first propelled them out of the New York City playgrounds in the 70’s, sneakers have morphed from a tool for athletic performance to Hip Hop’s cornerstone symbol of cool and an object of obsession for sneakers collectors world wide. Analyzing this global pop culture phenomenon, Just for Kicks is the first film of its kind to present the underlying culture and personalities that fueled this fashion revolution and its $26 billion global market. Far from a formal history of the sneaker industry, Just for Kicks offers a fun and colorful insider’s history of hip hop’s most treasured fashion item; revealing behind the scenes stories with exclusive testimonies, never before seen footage and the charismatic personalities that have come to influence pop culture.
(press release)
Whoa! Now I know this documentary dropped a little over a year ago, but this movie is all HYPE! Now, I got my hands on “Just for Kicks” at my local Hollywood Video Store for $3.99 (used!) ($20 bucks on on-line sites like Amazon and Sandbox Automatic!) and as soon as I got home, I rocked the disc on my dvd player… Word up, this documentary is a straight up history lesson on the sneaker culture and it’s Industry shakedown upon our wallets! After watching the flick I asked myself… “Did sneakers help ignite Hip-Hop Culture back in the days with the High tops… the Low tops… and it’s styles upon styles? or Was it Hip-Hop Culture that had the sneaker industry explode the f*ck up?!?” I just don’t know! As a kid, if it wasn’t toys… it was Hip-Hop cassettes… and if it wasn’t that… I needed a dope pair of kicks as I rocked my boombox! (The K-Mart brand, lol) “Just for Kicks”is a estimonial (if not dedication) to the art of Shoe Collecting. It’s a must have documentary for the new and old school sneaker head in search for the perfect kicks!

An overly stacked Deck… “Smokin’ Aces” (DVD)

I don’t consider myself an Ebert or Ropert type film critic. Come to think of it, I love watching movies. Good ones and bad ones. It’s safe to say I’ve boughten just as many bad movies as I have great ones. Though I won’t get into heavy detail on “Smokin’ Aces” (my first actual DVD review) I will point out a number of things… Think of me as that casual Dude who just saw it and gives you the 2 cents. To put it in mellow, it’s a brisk review on whether or not you should see the flick. Smokin’ Aces was alright. I don’t recommend you running to your local Best Buy and watching the film right when you get home. (which is what I did, but with Best Buy Bucks!) It’s somewhat of a Netflix film… just rent it, you’ll be pleased and glad you didn’t rush out to buy it.
