Love it or hate it… Cool Kids “88″ single is a free download single on iTUNES.

“This is like the worst rap song I’ve ever heard in my life. The beat isn’t even good.”

“This is coming from a true rap fan… and this is not rap. don’t even waste your time… honestly.”

You be the judge of their current single “88.” That’s pretty much what happens when you employ a “free downloadable single” on iTUNES music store to the masses featuring an up and coming group setting out to establish themselves. Meet The Cool Kids. Independent hip-hops (er… underground) true school duo courtesy of Chocolate Industries, just got a slap in the face from the mainstream masses. While I will say a handful of hip-hop faithfuls praised the kids “88″ single for it’s crafty attempt to bring back fundamental hip-hop from the 80’s, it was also panned excessively by mainstream heads with one liner comments like “This isn’t real hip-hop and I’m a real hip-hop head.” What can you expect though? Haters will be haters. While I will respect those who gave it a chance, I question those that panned it explaining real hip-hop lies in singles like “Bust it baby” by Piles or “Move shake drop” by DJ Laz…

I don’t know, why should I even bother fronting on fakers? Who am I to judge? I see it like this… Underground hip-hop has never seen an outlet like this within marketing music. On-line music purchasing and sampling is big. It either makes or breaks a group. (Like the Cool Kids) Back in the days you put out a 12″-inch vinyl, college DJ’s will play it… you slang your tapes at local shows opening for sub par acts… it was all word of mouth, and this like in 98′! The Cool kids for example have the opportunity to expand with a free downloadable single courtesy of iTUNES… you’re either gonna love it… or if your not use to the genre context Cool Kids are displaying… you’re gonna hate it! Cool Kids don’t have that mega label push to be a make or break act… they’re more independent and as far as I can tell, iTUNES fed their single to the lions.

I absolutely love their current single “88.” I’m so glad iTUNES put it out because there are times when 89% of the stuff I get for free usually sucks. (but thats just me) The Cool Kids are inspired by hip hop in the 1980s and artists like Eric B. & Rakim. With the way commercial radio is pumping out garbage these days, 80’s inspired throwback hip-hop is a very refreshing taste. We all just don’t see eye to eye. Would you rather “Do the smurf, Do the wop, Baseball bat, Rooftop, like I’m bringin ‘88 back with The Cool Kids or get down with Flo Rida…“She hit the floor… Next thing you know… Shawty got low, low, low, low, low, low, low, low… That’s pretty much how music is compared to on iTUNES and other sites like amazon that have a huge following. Damn… now I’m mad.
