A message from DJ Premier…

In the days that we are living, in this very moment, we purists of true music are witnessing the decline of the so-called major label. Another shift in the Matrix must come with medicine to heal the wounds of negativity… I, DJ Premier along with my partner Gordon Franklin, are here to bring all of you a label that you can depend on for credible music. The name of that label is Year Round Records, and it does just that. First out are the NYGz (pronounced EN-Why-Geez). It stands for New York Giantz which we all know cannot be used, but the name represents all of the above. The new album called “Welcome 2 G-Dom” provides the street landscape of skills from the Underground Hip Hop sound. MCs Panchi and Shabeeno drop it down like no other in this flooded pool of nonsense. Thanx to all the producers on this album: Emile, Kingdom, Thorotracks, Harlem Fatz and Biggest Gord… and of course me, for another job well done. Engineered by the legendary King Of Chill (MC Lyte, Audio Two, Alliance), you know you re getting nothing but Class “A” Hip Hop. The only way I can close out this one sheet is to say we live by our motto, “you get what you pay for”… Enjoy the album!

I gotta say it… Primo needs to run for office with words like that. Enter his new group the NYGz, with DJ Premier running the show off his new label, there’s no doubt “Welcome to G-Dom” is an album that delivers.

New York Giantz represent… Ya’ Dayz R#’d!

“Welcome to G-Dom” caught me off guard… it bumps like a quality debut album but is marketed as a slick mix-cd that compliments the upcoming release of “Pro’s and Con’s” produced entirely by DJ Premier. (dropping in 2008) No matter, Primo dishes out the quality New York vibe we’ve grown to love and backing his beats are MCs Panchi and Shabeeno. While I wouldn’t compare them to the grimey escapades of M.O.P. or the lyrically disciplin Jeru tha Damaja displayed… Panchi and Shabeeno stand tall bringing that rugged 90’s Hip-hop flow and street insight that displays inner city tales solidified within the 5 Boroughs.

To make the release a bigger deal to consumers, Primo Laces the NYGz with 7 tracks branding that Gangstarr vibe over Primo’s touch of boom bap. The lead single “Ya’ Dayz R#’d!” is a signature testament to New York Hip-hop where the beats and rhymes rip hard. “Get 2 The Point,” is a revisioned version of Snoop Dogg’s 1994 “G’z and Hustlaz” where Panchi and Shabeeno give it a definitive East Coast touch. Premier enlisted Producers Emile, The Kingdom, Harlem Fata and Thoratrack for maintaining the quality sound to balance the continuity of “Welcome to G-Dom.” Check out “What Kinda Life” featuring Raw, produced by Emile, work successfully around sped-up vocal samples in their hooks of the beat.

Until NYGz official “Pro’s and Con’s” album drops, this appetite for destruction is sure to flip heads. Although the guest list seems heavy at times, “Welcome to G-Dom” is a buzz worthy collection of singles bent on bring back that New York State of mind.
