Luckyiam (Living Legends) “Most likely to Succeed”

It’s been a hot second since I picked up a Living Legends release. Give these guys credit. Without a Top 40 single, radio rotation, or Platinum selling albums, LL managed to harness a huge worldwide following as Underground Kings. These guys have been slangin’ music for well over a decade. On the solo tip, each group member unleashes there own style and vibe with a little help from other members and numerous heads within the underground circuit. With the help of dope shows, myspace and word of mouth, The Living Legends have built a reputation without the politics (and bullshit) of the record industry. With over 5 (or so) albums dropped, Luckyiam is back with his new joint… “Most likely to succeed” and the results are… most likely, a solid release. (with a few bumps)
“Most likely to succeed” is straight grown man shit. Elevated rhymes, uplifting moments, solid delivery is what we come to expect from PSC. “The best I can” displays how jazzy Lucky can get over a smoothed out beat. Same goes for “Classy Joint,” which speaks for itself as Lucky again spits bar for bar over a classy tune on the laid back tip. While Slug and Aesop Rock drop by for lyrical afterthoughts on “Barrowed Time”, the beat is a little boring for me… while there points come accross, the beats are unbalanced. I gotta give it up to Mickey Avalon who drops a verse on “Nevermind” thats knockin’. “Supposed to be” is one of my favorite tracks taht show’s Luckyiam’s maturity on the mic… if you’re lookin’ for tracks about blazin’, gettin’ ass or buyin’ shit… “Most likely to succeed” doesn’t have it. (lol) It’s on a positive vibe that questions our morals, which is well explained on “Another day…”
I hate to say this but a Living Legends related album would be a LL album without members from the group and a joint or 2 produced by Grouch or Eligh… which is completely missing. I’ve come to enjoy beats from Grouch and Eli (even Sunspot!) and guest appearances from Murs, Scarub or even Bicasso… whether PSC chose not to have them featured as a personal solo effort… it’s sorely missed. They’re collaborations are the second best part in buyin’ a Legends album.
If this is your first time pickin’ up a Luckyiam album… it’s a solid effort but no cigar. Reintroduce yourself with my favorite Luckyiam album “Justify The Means” and than peep his to team up albums with Grouch called The CMA (All Over and Overall)… and while you’re at it, cop Almost Famous the Legends debut album and see why these cats are certified dope. Lucky’s already succeeded in gaing devoted fans like us. I can’t hate.Cop it.
