KanYe West “Graduation”

Finally! I finished a long over due review worth the wait. What can I say about KanYe you don’t already know? The Dude’s done come up in the world in a major way… (didn’t he just beat 50’s “Curtis” album out in sales?!?) and with all of the negative publicity surrounding his tantrums towards MTV and his ego trips… we’re not here to review his personal life, it’s his music that’s the upside to his personality and how it effects Hip-hop as a whole. One thing I will mention that’s been the topic at hand for several weeks now is his personal beef with MTV and not winning any “Moonman” awards… Ye already knows this… and I’m sure fans will agree, He doesn’t need an MTV award to proclaim how dope he is. We all know KanYe has some of the best beats in the business and yeah, it’s disappointing, but MTV doesn’t justify who and what heads should listen to. The world already knows- that’s why “Graduation” sold a grip of records… and so goes the title… “Graduation.” KanYe’s grown up album or the maturity to harness a quality album everyone can appreciate. I got peeps from my Mom, Engineers at work to thugs on the street… even my little nephew that copped KanYe’s album.

Luckyiam (Living Legends) “Most likely to Succeed”

It’s been a hot second since I picked up a Living Legends release. Give these guys credit. Without a Top 40 single, radio rotation, or Platinum selling albums, LL managed to harness a huge worldwide following as Underground Kings. These guys have been slangin’ music for well over a decade. On the solo tip, each group member unleashes there own style and vibe with a little help from other members and numerous heads within the underground circuit. With the help of dope shows, myspace and word of mouth, The Living Legends have built a reputation without the politics (and bullshit) of the record industry. With over 5 (or so) albums dropped, Luckyiam is back with his new joint… “Most likely to succeed” and the results are… most likely, a solid release. (with a few bumps)

Uncle Rahiem… Ya’ll had an uncle like him!
Check this out… New Consequence video off the “Don’t quit your day job” LP (HELLA SLEPT ON ALBUM) featuring cameo’s by DMC and Ali Shaheed Mohammed. Ya’ll know you had an Uncle like Rahiem in some shape or form. One of my favorite cuts off Con’s album. Check it out- good stuff yo’.
New video’s courtesy of KanYe West and 50 Cent
I swear MTV used to play music video’s… I found these on the artists respected Myspace pages. (shame on you MTV!) Last week 50 and KanYe went at it with the release of their new albums. While reviews have been mixed (I know, The Graduation review is comin’!) 2 new video’s have surfaced in promotion to the album. KanYe’s current single “Good Life” is my summer anthem that’s been in my head since it’s release. The beat, the rhymes and even T-Pains ranting is all love. 50’s new video single “Follow my lead” is somewhat of a surprise, featuring Robin Thicke. It’s that same great 50 (the seductive side)but an obvious push to the commercial pop side. (Um… record sales?) Enjoy em’ both.

Twista “Adreniline Rush 2007″

Call this guy “The Flash” of Hip-Hop Lyricism and a seasoned veteran who’s had his ups and downs within the industry status quo… a decade later with over 6 albums under his belt with a guest list of show stopping appearances, Twista returns with a new promising release “Adreniline Rush 2007.”
With his unique style and steez, I like to think of this guy as an emcee with an actors persona. Throughout the years we’ve seen Twista flip the script throughout his decade career experimenting in different styles and not to mention producer changes, etc. (We should thank KanYe for Twista’s 2004 revival) “Adrenaline Rush 2007″ is a step up above his past 2 releases where T finds himself most comfortable with his surroundings. Watch Twista come correct and get funky on the shameless crossover Pharell produced cut “Give it up” while things get super lyrical on the assisted Speed Knot Mobstaz track “No pistols.” It’s also good to see former rivals Bone Thugz-N-Harmony come together for a second time on “Ain’t no Hoe…” (one of the albums iller cuts) “Adrenaline Rush 2007″ is a lyrically solid commercial offering we’ve come to expect from this Chi-town native.
Emcee’s need to keep an eye on Twista’s success. Over a decade of success, Twista isn’t here to please everyone in the market… he’s created a solid product respected by his fanbase and newcomers alike. He’s come a long way from being an overnight celebrity… he’s a seasoned Veteran Now.

Chamillionaire “The Ultimate Victory”

I was never a big Chamillionaire fan when his debut album “The sound of revenge” dropped a few years ago. Come to think of it, with his mix-tape success and chart topping singles,I was somewhat a late bloomer that started bumping the album a year later when a local music store went out of business and had “The sound of revenge” on sale for $4.99. Better late than never, I finally got a taste of this Texas cat “turnin’ it up and “Ride Dirty” through platinum success. Cha-mill’s paid his dues and is back with a follow up entitled “The Ultimate Victory.” Is it truly a payoff of his success to call it the victory of all victories? Think of his new album as a Battle won… with many more to follow.

Percee P “Perseverance” (his long awaited debut album)

It’s been a looooong time coming and after listening to Percee’s official debut “Perseverance” from Stone Throw records I asked myself at the end of the album “What year is this again?” Produced entirely by Madlib the album is a dope throwback to the raw yesterday sounds of 1990-something where cat’s like Pete Rock, Lord FInesse and Diamond D (to name a few) were puttimg out hard as fuck albums. (that were under-appreciated to the public no doubt) I felt like a teenager again listening to this with no money, ready to steal this cassette tape from “The Wherehouse.” This album isn’t gonna make you wanna shake your rump and go super dumb in the streets… it’s brings memories back that little walkman movement kids had back in the day before the internet. Side A was super dope on the cassette and side be is even better… that’s how I’d compare Percee P’s new album. The beats are hard. The rhymes are hard. Shoot, it’s gangsta rap with out bein’ gangsta’ because Percee will whip your ass… lyrically.
