We’ve never really posted about rumors on The Big Playback, but this one is pretty juicy. NY Daily News is reporting that a source close to Hov is in negotiations with rival Columbia which Rick Rubin is co-chair of. The change of heart supposedly had been triggered by the arrival of Jermaine Dupri this passed February making him president of Island Urban music division which is part of Def Jam. But wait, it gets even more juicy. JD’s main squeeze Janet had just recently been signed to… Island, and guess where Jay’s girlfriend is signed to, that’s right Columbia. So I think it all makes sense and with Jay fulfilling his obligations to Def Jam it’d be a smart move for him to head over to Columbia and with rumors of Rick Rubin creating a “supergroup of staff” it’d only fit to have Hov in that line-up. I’ll update as soon as I get more information.
