What bugged me out story wise, is how Samurai Culture is influenced with today’s Pop Culture depicting African-Americans. It features a world world that infuses cell phones, cigarette lighters, and cyber technology into traditional Japanese culture. As the story goes… as a boy, Afro Samurai saw his father beheaded by the maniacal Justice. The murderer sought an ancient headband that marks the wearer as the #1 warrior in the world. As an adult, Afro seeks only revenge, cutting down anyone who blocks his path to Justice.
Afro Samurai features a score produced by The Rza himself and stars Samuel L. Jackson and Ron Pearlman. The Series is an absolute over-the-top face off between good and evil, embedded within a Hip-Hop stand point. One of the brighter releases of 2007. I found myslef watching the entire series in 1 sitting. With all the blood and violence, Afro Samurai paints a wonderful picture artistically put together in todays Pop Culture.
