“Still” For the People- Boot Camp Clik

Still For The People is the reissued debut Album from Bootcamp Clik featuring Members Cocoa Brovaz (Smif-N-Wessun), Heltah Skeltah, O.G.C., Representativz and others led by B.D.I. (Buckshot) that was released in 1997.
Around this time, I’d like to think that The BCC were in the middle of some changes in both Production and it’s increase in fanbase. When the album first dropped, Fans canned the album exclaiming extreme disappointed with For The People. None of The BCC Members shined as bright as they did when they were on their own albums. There were no kind of hip-hop quotables (Headz ain’t ready!) or hard beats, only some R&B-inspired production or “safe-sounding” hip-hop beats. The major element that’s missing from this release is the production of the Beatminers with that formula missing, The Crew resorted to stringed out tones with smooth beats and a much cooler tempo. The production is filled with a more live feel that stripped away it’s image of sample heavy break beats over dusted instrumentals. Rhyme wise, Ruck and Rock of Heltah Skeltah were featured in on 2 tracks. Buckshot was experimenting with his 2Pac-like sound as the BDI Thug which wasn’t working over the bland beats. Everyone else sounded sub par from the usual rough and rugged attitude.
Overall, For The People it was alright for me. I was going through changes too back in 97, come to think of it, as The BCC made changes I started changing to a point where I started lowering my standards on how I did things. I always look at Hip-Hop as being fine wine… give it a couple of years for the content to sink in. I enjoy For the People from time to time, because those early mistakes they made than, have given them the chance to improve with more enjoyable content fans are appreciating today. (Peep Sean Prices 2 albums and everything 9th Wonder contributed with!)
