Kick Ass in Def Jam “Icon” (XBOX 360/PS3)

Def Jam should have named their new offering (via XBOX 360 and PS3) “DEF JAM ASS KICKIN’” due to the fact that all you do in this game is beat ASS!
I am sure you’ve read all the terrible reviews and even downloaded the free content on Xbox Live… Not satisfied? Coming from a control button masher and casual Hip-Hop listener, this game is fun as hell! Think of it this way… you play the game starting a new record label… Imagine being the Big, Bad Suge knight. (or create him!) Paparazzi buggin’ your Artist? Go to the club and beat his ass! Paul Wall has a shady Mix Tape dealer bootleggin’ your sh!t? Go to his house and Beat his ass! E-40 isn’t happy in your record label? Give him an ass beating in the hood!

The bottom line is… You’re in charge and You show em’ who’s boss.
The game is up to you. You’re in control on who you sign, what singles you and your artists dish out to the streets, and you are responsible for managing your expenses! Baby Momma needs a little sum-sum from the jewelry shop? Its on you. Ludacris needs to send Christmas gifts to his neighbor hood homies and Fam… It’s on you on how you manage your expenses. Ask yourself… Do you wanna give up the scrilla? Make your Artists unhappy, Lose your credibility in the game. It’s that simple! “Icon” lets you be the Business exec in Hip-Hop you’ve always wanted to become! (LOL) and if push comes to shove… you kick ass.

Gameplay and Features. The enviornments are crazy, they are fully interactive hazards that come to life. From exploding gas pumps to spinning helicopter propellers, taking advantage of your surroundings is just as important as your toe-to-toe fighting skills. The Analog sticks are treated like Turntables (yep, hard to believe huh?) to add beats, switch songs, and make music your weapon! Build an empire and live the life of a music mogul by signing artists, managing their careers, and releasing their hit songs. My favorite part of the game is uploading songs from your mp3 collection (like Jeru’s “Come Clean” or The Gza’s “Liquid Swords!”) that drives the core fighting mechanics! (That’s where you’re turntable skills come to effect with the analog sticks!, LOL) The Graphics are downright spectacular! Every Artist featured in the game is rendered exactly the same as the original artists themselves! Down to their Tatoo’s, mouth Grillz and Gold Chains! Recording Artists galore are featured in this game… they include Redman, E-40, Ludacris, T.I., Mike Jones, Young Jeezy and Ghost Face to name a few. With each artist, their songs are part of the rotation within the games soundtrack.
To put it in mellow, This is just a taste of what Def Jam and EA Chicago have to offer. It’s only the beginning… From the humble creations of Def Jam Vendetta (on PS2) to Fight for New York (it’s underated sequel)… Def Jam Icon and its early releases have always catered to one idea. Beat that ass with style!
What cha’ know bout’ that?
